So, this last weekend, Emma and I went to Little Flowers Camp. It was from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon. The first day was really rough. It mostly consisted of introductions and getting to know each of the other families that were there. Keep in mind, these are mostly all really faithful Catholic families with normal fertility. Families of 10, 11, etc. That was tough. Plus, one of the main leaders of the camp was named Charlotte, so that stung a bit every time I heard it. Before everyone got to camp, one of the other leaders had prayed to the Holy Spirit, and put a certain saint card with a virtue to focus on/work on in certain people's bags, never even having met most of us. I got Perseverance. Okay, God.
While we were there, the girls were working toward 3 different badges: hiking, acting, and embroidery. Emma's Little Flowers group, meanwhile, were getting together Saturday morning to celebrate the end of their 4 year cycle. So, we left camp early Saturday morning before breakfast to meet them for Mass, a long (hour +) hike, and rosary, ending with ice cream. When we got back to camp, we realized that the only things we had missed, were things we had done anyway! Breakfast, prayers, and a hike! Perfect!
After that, the girls worked on a theatre badge (btw, did you know that St. John Paul II was an actor???). They first worked on using different voices and emotions, and did so by singing Happy Birthday to Charlotte in a sad voice, because she was "gone". Whew. Survived that. Then, all the girls worked on writing, practicing, and performing 4 skits (girls were put in 4 groups, and did 1 skit each). Emma's group portrayed the story of St. Bathildis, which, if you know nothing about, is very similar to the story of Cinderella (she was kidnapped by pirates put into slavery, sold to a king, king saw how diligent and obedient she was in all her duties, fell in love with her, and made her his queen).
Oh! Also, I made these adorable First Holy Communion barrettes for Emma's charity for camp (each girl was supposed to bring 40-50 craft items with their information to trade with the other girls so they could stay in touch after camp, and also have little presents to remember their friends by). I'm thinking of selling them, so check out the store side if you want to buy some.
May God richly Bless you all!
