Today would've been Charlotte Marie's 1st birthday. This day last year, I just wanted to crawl in a hole and die. This year, I felt stronger emotionally, and wanted to do something special to mark the day. So, after Emma and I finished shopping for Thanksgiving groceries this morning, we went out for a nice lunch, to be followed by a trip to the fancy cake shop in Broad Ripple. The place we had planned to go for lunch was closed on Mondays (I totally knew that - just forgot), so we tried going to a decent Chinese place near there, but it didn't open until dinner time. :-( We finally settled on Applebee's. Not terrible, but not quite what we had planned either. Anyway, so after lunch, we went to this adorable (and VERY expensive) cake shop in Broad Ripple, called Cake Bake. We parked a couple blocks away, and walked past the shops, the canal, etc. It was really nice. Funny side story: As we were starting to walk across the bridge on the canal, Emma quacked at the flock of ducks below in the water. They started quacking back! Then, as we turned, and were walking along the canal, the entire flock of ducks got out of the water, up on the sidewalk, and started following us! Emma freaked out, and made me carry her. ROFL It. Was. HILARIOUS!! I so wish I had thought to videotape it, or at least take a picture. Well, we finally find the cake shop, and the outside was so cute! We go inside, and it was just gorgeous! We were planning to get one piece of cake and share it, but we couldn't agree on a flavor. So, I decided it was a special day, and we each got our own piece of cake and a hot chocolate. We had brought a candle and lighter, so we put the candle in my piece, lit it, and Emma and I blew it out together. ♡ I was happy, because I felt like I had acknowledged and even celebrated Charlotte's birthday, and Emma was happy because she got cake. You don't want to know what that cake cost ($40 total bill for 2 slices of cake and 2 hot chocolates!!!), but it was beautiful, and nice, and fine for once a year. If I don't post again between now and then, I hope you all have a very Happy Thanksgiving. Please pray for me, as I will have my MIL here... More than that, though, please pray for the husband of Emma's godmother. He had a massive heart attack last week, and is doing better, but still has a long, uncertain road ahead for him and his family. #PrayforRay
God Bless, Dana
