The girls and I have been planning to drive to Maryland (from Indiana) to visit my dad's side of the family, who I haven't seen since he died 21 years ago, for weeks. We leave Sunday evening, June 19. A couple weeks after our Maryland plans were set in stone, I found out that Emma's overnight Little Flowers camp is June 17-19 (evening on Friday to noon on Sunday). So, we're doing that. Then, I found out that the best time for our St. Louis family to let us come visit them this summer is June 16-(sometime that we'll be in Maryland for). So, I think we're doing St. Louis on June 16. Plus, when we get back from Maryland, VBS will be starting at our parish the next day. I was already feeling a little insane for agreeing to all of that, but now...I've definitely lost it. Lol Emma and I were running errands yesterday, and had that annoying thing happen where you're way too early for your next scheduled thing (ballet in this case), but not enough time to go home. We were driving past the humane society, where I used to take Bella all the time when she was little to visit the animals. I had never really done that with Emma (7), so I thought it would be a fun way to waste time...until Emma saw Squirt. On the way to ballet, Emma kept trying to convince me that Skye needs a friend. Because this is the face of a completely miserable dog, right? ;-) Anyway, I told Emma that I didn't really care that much if we got another dog or not, but that she'd have to convince Daddy. I was 200% sure he'd say no, especially since he doesn't like small dogs, and Squirt is...well...a squirt. Lol Anyway, I posted on Facebook that Emma fell in love with Squirt, and it was meant as a "ha ha, good luck kid!" kind of post...but...it soon turned into a serious, I think we're getting a puppy post when hubby started asking questions about it. Then, he called me while Emma was in ballet, and basically said he didn't care, we could get the puppy, as long as it's potty trained by the time I leave for Maryland. WHAT?!! So, when Emma came out of ballet, and was changing shoes for tap, I told her that Daddy said yes! So, anyway, we went back to the humane society after tap to look closer at Squirt's paper. After all, I hadn't thought we were actually going to end up GETTING another animal, so I hadn't been paying attention. I have to admit, I was sort of hoping that he'd have a "bad" paper, like not playing well with other dogs, or cats, or something... Nope. Perfectly healthy, friendly, ready to adopt little puppy. And, while the adoption fee is rather high, it includes so much, that it really makes it kind of cheap... Unfortunately, we got there too close to closing time, so we couldn't take Squirt home with us. We had to wait and go back today. So, when Emma woke up this morning, and started talking about how we were getting a puppy today, I was like "what puppy?". I half-heartedly tried for like a minute to convince her that I had no idea what puppy she was talking about, and maybe she dreamed it. Lol It didn't work. So, we're getting a puppy! We do have Skye to help potty train, so hopefully it won't be too bad...right? Pray for me! Lol In the meantime, we've decided not to tell Bella until she comes over on Thursday, and finds a new puppy. She's gonna DIE of excitement. Bella's an animal NUT! ;-)
